Press / Artist Interviews

Seattle Art Source - July 2023

Artist Feature: Nathalie Minerva

“ Nathalie Minerva moved to Seattle from her home in Montreal 7 years ago and is greatly inspired by both the water and the mountains in her new home. Her chosen method of white on white allows the viewer to connect with the movement and composition of her waves and peaks without the input of color to detract from the form.”

Seattle refined - December 2022

Artist of the week: Nathalie Minerva

“My life revolves around environmental awareness. I've been a skier and surfer for over 15 years, and capturing the beauty of what I want to protect is important to me. That's where most of my inspiration comes from. About ten years ago, I also stumbled on artist Zaria Foreman and her legendary Iceberg pastel drawings. Her mission statement resonated with me so much. It gave me the boost I didn't know I needed to pursue a career in arts.”

Art Squat Magazine - December 2022

Talk with Laura Siebold

“—to what extent can art make a difference? I think a lot of artists grapple with this question. For me, I think that art has a way of forcing an interuption in our normal, everyday relation to things, and this interruption provides [an] occasion for seeing and understanding things in different ways, for forming new relations to the things around us. It may sound like a small thing, but if my art can do this, I will count it as a success. There is always more we can do (and should do!), given the importance and complexity of these issues, and to me, art is just one part of a much larger response that is needed—though not an unimportant one, I think.”

Madison Graph - May 2022

“In a time and era where a number of artists can’t keep up with the game simply because they lack the discipline, have run out of ideas, or finding it hard to make a living off art, Seattle artist Nathalie Minerva is leaping over the walls and breaking new grounds through the creation of her oversize pieces.”

Komo News - December 2022

“ Seeing the seasons change year after year. They are not what they once were or even when they used to be. There isn't as much snow as I remember, and now there's snow in places where it shouldn't snow. Hardly any snow on the mountains, that's for certain. Another moment that marked me was when I heard about the Great Barrier Reef dying. All that has a very big stamp on my work.”

The Emerald Palette - August 2020

“Nathalie Minerva P. is a Franco-American artist from Montreal that resides in Seattle. She depicts the water and mountains of the Pacific Northwest because she’s a fierce advocate against climate change. Her pieces look almost like architectural elements thanks to the spackle-like medium she uses. Her art is all white and has a ton of texture, almost like it’s three dimensional thanks to how the paint raises off the canvas.”
