Artist Statement

Nathalie Minerva is a Seattle artist, making textured minimalistic paintings with japandi essence. Her fascination with the interplay of light and texture is the moving force behind her acrylic-based monochromes, which reflect her deep appreciation for the main subject of her paintings: power and movement of the ocean, as well as the changing snowscapes of our local mountains.

The artist’s layered brushwork emphasizes the meditative quality of these natural phenomena by creating a richly textured surface whose shadows and undulating lines take on a dynamic character through changes in light and position of the viewer.

Nathalie sees her paintings as studies, not merely of the forms represented but of the way in which we are affected by subtleties of line and shadow amid such dramatic displays.
